My husband and I recently built a home with HUSH Fine Homes in Lorne Park, Mississauga. We were very fortunate to have been introduced to Avissa who worked together with us on this project in two separate phases - finishing's and décor.
We were relatively new to the custom building and interior design process; however, Avissa took it to a whole new level! She did an outstanding job with the design of the kitchen, bathrooms and other finishes as well as the décor (including furniture pieces & window treatments). The end product was stunning and turned out way beyond our expectations. I would say our home is worthy of being submitted for a feature story in “House & Home” magazine.
Not only did she provide excellent customer service at all times, we always found her to be very professional, flexible, thorough and attentive to every last detail. Her architectural background coupled with her superior interior design skills was key to executing the project with such success. She very quickly understood our needs and was always cognizant of our budget and timelines which made the process so much smoother. Her classic design sense worked wonders and we’re confident that our choices whether kitchen cabinets, tiling or furniture, are timeless.
On a more personal note, we found Avissa a joy to work with and appreciated her cheerful demeanor and calm approach even when we came up against challenges.

In my youth I grew up in the Annex on Madison Avenue. This area is saturated with Victorian homes especially with the Queen Anne style which is characteristic with turrets. I was strongly influenced by this architecture. I didn't realize how much I missed the Annex until I moved to North York with my parents. I made the decision to tear down my bungalow home and recapture my past.
In a serendipity meeting with a real estate agent at 44 Churchill Avenue, the agent highly recommended HUSH who took over this address from another builder. After a brief meeting with Nick Jamal, the project manager, I felt confident with his vision, honesty and imagination. Before making any commitment, I contacted two other builders who had no vision or imagination and most importantly, I did not trust.
I took pictures of homes and styles in the Annex and eventually, Jamal and myself took a tour of the Annex until we had a meeting of the minds. I was determined to get away from the look of most of the large homes that are built in North York. They are predictable, with their stone veneer frontage along with the two car garage that no one uses except to store belongings and winter equipment. Jamal and myself tried to figure out what Queen Ann architecture would evolve into today without duplicating the past which resulted in changing the front entrance into a modern day concept.
A stumbling point was with finding brick layers that understood what I was looking for in terms of laying the brick in the very specific way I demanded. Even though the crew was very talented and experienced, they were not familiar with laying bricks into an arch or forming buttresses under the window sills. Because of this we had to do trials and mock brick laying (which I thought was very accommodating and supportive) and the process started off slowly until we felt the brick layers were all on the same page. The Stone images were incorporated into the bricks which included the fleur de lis, mythical faces, and creatures such as gargoyles. To my surprise and delight, the brick laying process went very smoothly and the workers took on a pride to outdo themselves. Without instruction, they finished the top East section with protruding brick triangles, with the stone image of the God of Seasons, within the centre. They did an excellent job and I pay homage to their talents. As a bonus, the bricks that were chosen by Jamal and myself, were of a longer length then your traditional bricks and the colour hues were unique and complimented the style.
Inside the house there many large windows complimenting the 10 feet ceilings and on the second floor there are two sky lights to let in the sun light. There is a noticeable contrast from the outside which strongly reflects the historic past but the inside is entirely modern with the state of the art gas fireplace and a Miele kitchen range.
The last project was the building of the wooded deck which initially was to extend less than 10 feet from the building. Jamal made a brilliant observation when he stated that in the past he has had concerns from precious projects that the deck was not large enough, but he never heard of anyone complaining that the deck was too small. As a result, the deck was extended to the property line which has resulted in many compliments from my guests, about the freedom of movement while attending my summer gatherings. In conclusion, I have been very satisfied with my relationship with HUSH and I am now living in a high quality home that I'm very proud to be the first resident. Thank you Nick Jamal and HUSH for recapturing my past and projecting it into the future.

I’ve purchased a home before from a different builder…not even close to the same experience. It’s kind of, sign here and see you closing date type of thing.
I like the flexibility that we were allowed to customize our home to exactly what we wanted it. We basically took a floor plan and were told, you know, you can go crazy on what you want to do. Make the house you’re dream home, and that’s essentially what we did. The staff was amazing at HUSH. And all the professionals there were amazing at giving us our dream home.

The site supervisor has been so hands-on. He’s been great with helping us pick the stone, the detail. He makes sure that we see everything and that we’re comfortable with everything. It’s been a really terrific experience.
From my perspective, I’m thrilled with the team. They’re all very experienced. They’ve built a lot of high-end homes and I feel very comfortable that they’re going to build this home well. And they’re giving us great advice. They’re very flexible. We continue to make changes even as the house goes up, and they’ve been thrilled to make those changes for us.
We built our first home a long time ago with another builder and we didn’t get to pick a lot of things, we didn’t get to move walls, we didn’t get to change fixtures. This has been fabulous. We’ve changed walls, we’ve made spaces bigger, certain areas smaller. There are things that…initially we didn’t have a second closet in our Master, but they figured out a way that they could give us a second closet and we now have a his and hers.
They actually made the house better. They worked with us to come up with ideas and there are so many choices today. And we continue as we go through the process and we focus on things that we hadn’t focused on before. We’ve come back…we’ve actually made changes and they’ve been great with it. They’ve been very patient. Nothing’s ever a problem to change. So it’s been great, and we’ve been thrilled with it.
